A Password Helper for the Memory-Challenged
866, 10 Aug 2013If you are like me, you have a terrible time remembering all those passwords for the sites you like to visit on the internet. Many folks settle on ONE password and use it for ALL sites - that is begging to be devastated by a single hack. And, even then, several sites (e.g. DFAS, VA, etc) expect the password to be some wierd combination of letters, numbers, upper and lower case, and/or special characters. No two sites seem to have the same rules for passwords.
In earlier bulletins, we have recommended RAFINO members obtain and use a password manager program. Most such programs allow you to maintain all of your passwords in a single, securely encrypted file on your PC, accessible by a special, MASTER password of your own creation. They then are smart enough to recognize when a website is asking for login credentials and, when it detects such a request, the program lets you fill in the blanks with a single click of a button. Thus, the only password you ever need to remember is your master password.
Here is a video describing one such (free!) password manager for Windows, MAC, Linux, Android, or IPAD, LastPass.
