Words to Finance Song

847, 13 Jul 2013

I originally posted this bulletin notice as "Words to the Finance March".  Thanks to a nice note from Jerry Heard, I stand corrected.  Here is Jerry's input on this tune.  Note that there is some controversy as well:

I viewed the “Finance Song” on the web site today. Let me correct the record.
I wrote the song while Commandant. The music was set by the Warrant Officer at Ft Ben who was in charge of the band. It remained as I wrote it until another Commandant (Who will remain anonymous to avoid embarrassment) decided he could change my song without asking me. It was a good song with more than one verse. That “Payday, Payday” addition is, in my opinion, not enhancing and, if it had been me, I would have asked the author before changing his work. In the academic world that would be called plagiarism. Is it not the same here? Somewhere in my “stuff” I have the original words and score. But each time I hear that “Payday, payday” chant, it reminds me that some do not respect the work of others.
