New "Corner" - My Most Unforgettable Finance (NC)Officer
742, 14 Mar 2013Earl Daniels has made a great suggestion for a new "corner" on the RAFINO Website:
Here is my idea to capture and preserve stories about unforgettable characters we have encountered during our careers. Probably throughout all our careers all of us have come in contact with individuals who have had a positive influence on our lives by virtue of their character or actions. I believe there are some stories worthy of documenting for retention in the annals of our Finance Corps history. There are stories that if we do not capture them now, will be lost forever.
Three individuals who I personally knew with stories whom I believe warrant preserving are:
-
LTC Vernon McGuire - Parachuted into Normandy on D Day as an E5.; became a POW; liberated by the Russians; and bicycled across Germany to link up with American forces. Served in Viet Nam as Finance Officer, 101st ABN Div.
- CWO Robert Viser - Last serving Finance warrant officer
- SGM Dale Johnson - By today's physical standards could not serve in the Army; but, one of the wisest men regarding human nature I ever knew.
I am sure you have interesting stories regarding Unforgettable Officers and NCOs that warrant documenting. If we don't do it, these stories will be lost forever.
Let me know what you think. I have written my story on LTC McGuire
