BG Dyson on the MG List

Brig(P). Gen. Karen Dyson is a distinguished military graduate and the daughter of a Special Forces officer. Dyson is a graduate of Missouri State University's ROTC program and was the first female General officer. She currently is the deputy director of the Army Budget Office. Dyson led the 266th Finance Command, which supported the European Theater and Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom; the 208th Finance Battalion, Mannheim, Germany; HHC, 7th Finance Group, VII Corps, Stuttgart, Germany and Saudi Arabia; and the 66th Finance Section, Fort Campbell, KY. Her leadership experience also included Operation Desert Shield/Storm and in peacekeeping missions in Operation Joint Guard in Bosnia.

Dyson has held assignments as chief of staff and comptroller at the White House Military Office, chief of the Army Coalition Provisional Authority Support Team and budget officer for the Army chief of staff.

Her awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal.

Dyson was first commissioned into the Army, Finance Branch, at Missouri State University. She holds an MBA from Austin Peay State University and a Master of Science for National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. She is married to Col. James C. Chamberlain, U.S. Air Force retired.
