MAJ RIDELL DAVID TURNER To TAPS

MAJ RIDELL DAVID TURNER passed away 2/13/2023.

 

Riddell David Turner, Major US Army (Retired), 75, of Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully on February 13th, 2023 at home with Donna (Love) Turner, his loving wife of 35 years. David was born on July 3rd, 1947 at MacDill Field AFB in Tampa, Florida to Thurman C. and Billie E. Riddell Turner.
He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1965. After receiving his bachelor's degree from Arkansas Tech, he attended Officers' Candidate School and began a long and distinguished career in the United States Army. He faithfully served his country on active duty for 22 years in the US Army Finance Corps earning several commendations, and a Meritorious Service Medal for significant contributions toward improvement of the quality of finance and accounting services worldwide During this time he also successfully passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination.
David was an active member of his Clarksville, Arkansas community as a volunteer and a member of the First Presbyterian Church Clarksville where he served as an Elder. He loved to travel the world, scuba dive, especially in the Monterey Bay, and pamper his dogs and cats for whom he had deep affection. He also loved all things science fiction, particularly Star Trek.
After retirement, he followed Donna and her career to Columbia, South Carolina. He made many close friends and realized his dream of becoming a member of the law enforcement community, proudly serving Columbia College and the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.
David was predeceased by his father, Thurman "Speedy" Turner. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends near and far. He is survived by his wife, Donna; mother, Billie; sister, Kim (Frank) Woosley; beloved niece, Nicki (Bryce) Ledbetter; beloved nephew, John (Kaitlin) Woosley; his two great-nephews, Jack and Graham; his daughter, Kristen (David) Nicoson; his grandsons, Raistlin (Tiffany) Cox, Conner Nicoson; and two great-grandchildren, Anastasia and Nikolai. He will also be missed by Donna's California family, Patsy Love and the Van Schuyvers.
Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family during this difficult time. Memorial donations may be made to MSA Hospice, 2 Palmetto Wood Parkway, Irmo, SC 29063.

Sorry to hear. I remember Dave very well from the Advanced course in 1977. Rest in peace Dave and thank you for your service. Bob
