COL JOHN M. GASPER, Jr To TAPS

John M. Gasper, Jr., 86 (US Army Col. Retired), of Carlisle, PA, died on Friday, May 10, 2019 in the Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill with his loving family by his side.

He was born on February 21, 1933 in South Philadelphia, PA to the late John M. and Mary Brozene Gasper, Sr.


John retired from the US Army as a Colonel after 31 yrs. in the Finance Corp. He honorably served his country in Thailand and during the Vietnam Conflict. He graduated from Drexel University, received his Masters degree from University of Denver, attended CGSC at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. and furthered his career graduating from the US Army War College. John had been the comptroller at West Point. He was the Commander of Finance and Accounting Europe and finished his career at Ft. Dix as Chief of Staff.


He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus Council #4057, Carlisle VFW Post #477 and a member of RAFINO.


John was the loving husband and father of three loving children. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 yrs. Sally Ann Bower Gasper of Carlisle, a son, Andrew J. Gasper of Greencastle, his daughter, Bridget A. Gasper of Carlisle and his brother Ronald Gasper of Camp Hill, PA. John was preceded in death by his son Kelly C. Gasper.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM in St. Patrick Catholic Church 87 March Dr. Carlisle, PA. Celebrant will be The Reverend William C. Forrey officiating. Interment will be held following the Mass at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Carlisle with Military Honors being provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 AM until time of mass at 11:00 AM.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to St. Patrick’s Third Century Fund, 152 East Pomfret St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
