MS BETTY BETKA To TAPS

Betty Ingrum Betka, 95, of Ludington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 9, 2017 at her home in Ludington Woods.

Betty Ingrum was born September 10, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Anna and Richard Harry Ingrum. When she was two years old, they moved to Detroit. She graduated from Thomas M. Cooley High School in 1939 and attended Marygrove College. She was married on April 16, 1952 in Detroit to Lt. Robert David Betka of Ludington, and he preceded her in death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Betty’s husband was a career Army officer, and she enjoyed being a military wife. They lived in several different states and also in Okinawa. From Okinawa they were stationed in Battle Creek, Michigan, where he retired from the Army. After retirement, his job with the Department of Defense took them to Germany for two years and they traveled all over Europe, England, and Turkey. In 1980 they retired and moved to Ludington.

Betty was a member of St. Simon Catholic Church, and an active member of the Altar Society for many years. She was a hospital volunteer both at Leila Hospital in Battle Creek and Memorial Medical Center in Ludington. She was also a member of Lincoln Hills Golf Club for over 30 years.

She is survived by daughter Mary Ann (David) Maxson, son Robert David (Nancy) Betka Jr., grandchildren Lt. David (Kristen) Ruhlig, Clare Ruhlig, Dr. Paul, Katherine, and Laura Betka, great-grandchildren Hunter and Jocelyn Ruhlig, and numerous nieces and nephews.
