Update on Pedersen

2954, 20 Sep 2023

Received update on Dick Pedersen from Arne:

Here is the update.

My dad has lost approximately 40 lbs since last year at this time.  It is hard to eat given the pain he experiences in his abdomen.  He is maintaining is mental grasp on life.  Still sharp as a tack.  A little slow in processing, but still sharp nonetheless.

We toured Westminster assisted living for him about two weeks back.  They have some very nice apartments.  We would move his bed, easy chair with foot stool, side table, computer, CapTel phone, and his clothes, towels, etc. into the apartment.  He is still a bit hesitant about making the move.  He mentioned to Olie and Alison that he would move when he had to use the walker in the house.  As a frame of reference, he does use the walker everywhere else.

Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

15 SEP Update:

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Here is the update on my dad.

My dad stayed at Community North Hospital for five (5) overnights.  He did eat well and seemed a little better.

He was discharged on yesterday – Thursday, September 14th – and we (myself and Uncle Bert) drove him to Westminster to live in Assisted Living.  The day went as planned until the nursing staff at Laural Commons (assisted living building) assessed him.  He was assessed to move into Aspen building which is a rehab building and provides similar care as my Mom is receiving in skilled nursing.  The bottom line is that he is now in skilled nursing.

He is in Aspen Building, Room 3211 at Westminster Village North.  I will provide a phone number to his room in another email.

I do covet your prayers a few specific items:

1.            Pray for safety

2.            Pray for the Peace of God to cover him.

10 SEP Update from Arne:

Good Morning Everyone,

Here is the update on my dad.

Yesterday around 2pm EDT, he fell in his house.  He pressed his emergency button.  A neighbor across the street saw the ambulance and came to his house.  I was contacted by the Emergency service, the backup for the emergency service, and the neighbor.

I called the neighbor’s number and was able to speak with the EMTs onsite.  He did not appear to have any open wounds or bleeding.  We agreed and they took him to Community North Hospital ER.  I met my dad there.

The ER doc examined him and found no apparent injuries other than him complaining about his lower back.  The X-Rays showed no broken bones.  The ER doc did not want my dad to go back home as I explained to him that dad was going to assisted living at Westminster on Thursday, September 14th

The onsite case manager and the on-call hospice nurse were able to get him into a room at Community North Hospital for a five overnight stay (aka respite care).  He will check out on Thursday, September 14th and move into Westminster.

If you want to call him at Community North Hospital, the number is (317) 621-6262.  His room number is 3171.

My Uncle Bert, my Dad’s younger brother, will be out on Wednesday, September 13th and stay for one week.

I do covet your prayers a few specific items:

  1. Pray for safety
  2. Pray for a smooth transition on Thursday
  3. Pray for the Peace of God to cover him.

Update 28 Aug 2023

From Arne Pedersen:

Good Afternoon All,

I trust everyone had a great weekend and a great start to your week.

This last week my Dad finally agreed to move into assisted living.  He has come to the realization that he needs the help and living alone in his house is too much for him, not to mention a bit dangerous.

The target move in date is Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

We are currently working on addressing the transition items (quite the list) to make this as smooth as possible.

Please keep him in your prayers as this is a big step for him.
