The flowers that were promised as a result of the April showers should be showing their pretty faces by now.

One of the more important days of the year is Mothers' Day.  It is 9 May.  Don’t forget to recognize the Mothers in our lives especially the one of them that is our wife.  Where in the world would we guys be if it were not for the TLC we receive at the hand of our Wives and Mothers.

Armed Forces Day is on 15 May and is a reminder of the important military activities that occurred in May.  For information on a very special event on this day see http://www.defenselink.mil/afd/military/history.html

  • The German Blitzkrieg of France began on 10 May 1940 (70 years ago); six weeks later France had fallen.

  • Corregidor, a small rocky island in the Philippines, fell to the Japanese on 6 May 1942.  See  http://corregidorisland.com/ for more information.

  • The Germans surrendered in a schoolhouse at Reims, France, at 2:41 a.m. on 7 May 1945.

  • We will celebrate the 65th anniversary of V-E Day on 8 May.

Every day in May our service personnel will be fighting and supporting the fight to free the people of Afghanistan and Iraq as well as to protect us from terrorists.

On 31 May we will observe Memorial Day even though we know that the actual day is 30 May.  As we remember those who have given full measure of their lives, also remember that we are eligible to be remembered for whatever we have been able to give for our Country.  There is an old Russian proverb that says:   “We live as long as we are remembered.”

While you are remembering things, don’t forget that 42 of our Finance family have died and we received the word after the reunion in Branson.  Their names are entered on the TAPS page of this web site.

The 2010 Reunion in Tacoma WA is only 5 months away.  It is time to mark your calendar For 9 to 12 September and to send in your "Intent form" confirming that you plan to join us.  Also there is still time to reserve a cabin on the Sapphire Princess to join us on the cruise to Alaska right after the reunion.

Anyone who has not paid 2010 dues is now in a delinquent status.  Please check your record on the web roster to see your dues status.  Let me know if there is any difficulty in accessing the web roster.
