COL VINCENT J. FELLETTER To TAPS

2116, 15 Oct 2017

FELLETTER, Col. Vincent J. US Army (Ret.)

77, died April 1, 2017 in Tampa. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut on December 14, 1939 to Walter and Mary (Flaherty) Felletter of East Hartford, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank; his mother-in-law, Margaret Kearns; father-in-law, Ernest A. Kearns; and brother-in-law, Ernest L. Kearns. He is survived by his wife, Judith Kearns; two sisters, Patricia Drew and Mary Ann LaPointe; his children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He married Judith on January 22, 1957. The couple had three children, Vincent John Felletter Jr. (Leigh), Katherine Felletter Skube (Edward), Walter Phillip Felletter II (Janet). Grandpa will be lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren, Jeffery D. Skube (Kaylin), Conor K. Felletter, Clare L. Felletter, John C. Felletter, Sarah M. Felletter; and his great-granddaughter, Marilyn E. Skube. He was extremely proud of what his children and grandchildren have accomplished.

A strong proponent of education, he encouraged the young men and women he met to pursue an education. He always said it is never too late to start.

He served as Infantry Company Commander with the 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam during 1969. After 27 years he retired to Tampa in 1993.

It was an honor to serve his country, and he hoped that his legacy would be that he was able to guide and protect the men and women under his command.

Vincent started a financial services business and faithfully served his clients until his second retirement in 2015. Blessed by God, he served the Lord in various ways wherever his life placed him.

He gave of his time and treasure to many in need throughout his life. Judith and Vincent celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 22, with their extended family and friends. His last spoken words were to ask Judith "will you marry me?"

Following night prayers, committing his spirit to God, Vincent passed away peacefully with his wife of 60 years at his side. Memorial donations may be made to LifePath Hospice.

He was buried on Wednesday, April 19 at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
