LTC WILLIAM E. SLEZAK To TAPS

1989, 09 Apr 2017

LTC WILLIAM E. SLEZAK passed away 3/17/2006.

Born in Glenwood, Iowa, Bill served his country in the United States Army with great distinction for 28 years, seeing action in World War II and Korea. He was honored with two Bronze Stars and the Legion of Honor. Bill retired from the military in 1960, moved his family to Seattle, Washington, graduated from Seattle University, and began a second career in banking, working for Seattle First National Bank as a trust officer for 20 years.
A devoted Christian, Bill served as church treasurer and financial advisor for many years. He also remained active in his 88th Infantry Division and veterans' organizations. Bill enjoyed sports of all kinds, playing tennis into his eighties. He especially loved going to Husky and Mariner games as well as any sport or activity involving his children and grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his role as "Brakeman Bill" at the family's Whidbey Island, Washington, train car cabin.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Jane Estes.
He is survived by three children, Jana Shaw, Sheri Slezak, and Rex Slezak; and six grandchildren, Kristen, Scott, Katie, Clayton, Garrett, and Graham. A kind and loving man with a quick wit and dry sense of humor, Bill will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers or donations, send a message of support in memory of Bill Slezak to our men and women in uniform via the Armytimes website at www.armytimes.com
