Note from Bob Caetano on D-Day
1616, 07 Jun 2016Responding to our D-Day graphic on the home page on 6 June, Bob Caetano sent us this note.
I just turned 13 on that day. Ike called me the day before & said don't want to spoil your birthday. Seriously in those days we stayed glued to the radio to hear all the news. On Sat we went to the kids matinee & besides the Green Hornet there was Movie tone news with all the updates. My first boss was an Ord Off who had his boat sunk in the 2nd or 3rd wave. Fortunately they were close enuf to shore that they were able to wade ashore with their equipment. One other story. Col John Davin told the story abt having his boat sunk in the invasion of North Africa. When he opened the safe the money was wet. Fortunately It was hot so they could dry the money, laying it out on concrete in the sun. To keep it from blowing away they put rocks on the money. Cant verify the truth but it sound good. Col Davin retired from Ft Bliss in abt 1961.
Unfortunately we probably will not be able to attend the reunion because of Lisette's problems. Bob Caetano
Here's hoping Lisette improves and we can see you both at the 2018 Reunion.
