Ms. RAWLEY, DOROTHY to TAPS

Dorothy "Dot" Moore Hamrick Rawley, 80, of Raleigh, N.C., died Monday, May 25, 2009, at home. She was born Feb. 5, 1929, in Rutherford County, N.C., to Winnie B. Hamrick and Ivy Moore Hamrick. She was preceded in death by sisters, Lib Drum and Eloise Job, and brother, Sidney Hamrick.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Col. William Franklin Rawley Sr.; children and spouses, Frank and Cheryl Rawley of Providence Forge, Va., Ron and Dottie Hendricksen of Lynchburg, Va., and Beegee and Kathy Brown of Youngsville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Christina Ross and husband, Paul, of Oklahoma City, Okla.,Trey Rawley of Oklahoma City, Okla., Charles Hendricksen and wife, Julia, of Lynchburg, Va., Christopher Hendricksen and fianc?, Gavin Edwards, of Charlotte, N.C., Michael Hendricksen and wife, Kathryn, of Harrisonburg, and Lindsey Brown and fianc?, Sam Nelson, of Charlotte, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Amber Taylor, Grace Hendricksen, Molly Hendricksen and Caroline Hendricksen; a fifth great-grandchild to join her family June 18, 2009; and sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Hart of Waycross, Ga.

Dot graduated from Davidson High School, attended Queens College and graduated from Meredith College, receiving a Bachelor of Music with Pipe Organ Performance under the study of Dr. David Lynch. She was an accomplished musician, offering her musical talents to Davidson College Presbyterian church at the young age of 14, and she performed with many professional organizations across the United States and Japan, where her husband was stationed with the United States Army. She was accompanist for Bible Study Fellowship, a member of the Music Teachers Piano Guild, MTNA, and the Gideon International Auxiliary. She also composed Christian songs and authored the book, "In The Beginning-God" with her heartfelt desire for those who read it to "glorify God and to enjoy Him forever." 

She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and great-grandmother, always offering help and taking time for her family and friends, laughing and loving, always to the Glory of God. Dot and her family THANK all the physicians and staff members from the University of North Carolina Hospital third Anderson and all her home healthcare nurses for all their devotion, love and care. Dot's family thanks all the caregivers, friends and the congregation of Christ Covenant Church for all their love, prayers and support.
