Earl Daniels' Museum
1276, 28 Jan 2015I emailed Earl Daniels on his birthday and we exchanged the usual pleasantries. Then Earl shared with me this photo of his most unusual hobby project. Beautiful reproduction.
Here is Earl's description:
It is a reproduction, built from the blue prints obtained from the Smithsonian, of the Abbot - Downing Concord Stagecoach, originally built between 1826 and 1899. The reproduction was done by a local gentleman in our area who is in his mid-80s. It takes him about six months to built one.
I already had an original doctor's buggy built in the late 1800s and an overseer's buggy built between 1840 and 1850.
After acquiring the stagecoach my project was to build my own museum to display the items.
The exterior of the museum has the appearance of an 1850 blacksmith shop. I built the museum myself with some periodic assistance from a local carpenter.
This coach is a reproduction of the one which had a route from Deadwood SD to Cheyenne. That route was 292 miles.
I am currently having framed a copy of the map which depicts the route with all the stops and the distance between stops. It has been quite an interesting project.
Anyone visiting our area (Lenoir, NC) is welcome to stop by for a tour
Earl
