On his birthday, 19 August 2017, COL J Claud Wallace - with the lovely Virginia at his side - was presented with the well-deserved Brigadier Robert C Goetz Medallion by his son, COL Roy Wallace, the Army's Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1.
The award, approved and announced in May of 2017 at the Regimental banquet, is only the 26th award of the Goetz Medallion since its inception. Unfortunately, J Claud was unable to make the trip.
If ever anyone deserved this award, it has to be J Claud Wallace. For years, he was the editor and webmaster of the RAFINO.ORG website and the periodic newsletter. More that that, he has been a staunch supporter of RAFINO, its membership, and its goals.
If you have been to any of the following RAFINO reunions, you would have seen J Claud in attendance:
88 90 92 94 96 98 00 02 04 06 08 10 12 14 16
He has represented a shining thread of continuity through countless RAFINO executive boards, always there with advice and assistance whenever asked.
It is fitting that J Claud's son was the one to present the award. The award is in recognition for a lifetime of service to the Corps and the Regiment. Among J Claud's many contributions was his leadership role in Project COPPER, and the lessons learned in that early effort to study the feasibility of merging the Finance Pay mission into the AG Corps' mission. Those lessons are being taken to heart by the current IPPS-A project that is under the guidance and direction of COL (RET) and former acting ASAFM, Roy Wallace.
